Fun Carver 88

Details

WHAT IS THIS SKI????

A huge powder inspired 152 mm rockered tip - an 88 mm frontside friendly waist - and a race inspired stiff flat tail…

Until we name it, we’re calling it the Fun Carver 88. It’s the only name that does it justice. Or maybe we should just call it the reverse mullet - party in the front, business in the back.

This ski will make you a better skier and people on the chairlift will turn their heads in awe as you rip immaculate slalom turns on a ski with a 150 mm + tip!

If you want to make every vertical foot count with tight turns, then hop off the trail in fresh pow - there’s only one ski you want - and it’s this one!  It’s weird, funky, and kind of confusing to look at - but the sh!% eating grin on your face after your first run will tell the whole story.

This isn’t a one ski quiver -  it’s different. It’s the ski that compliments your true All Mountain skis, (like the Ahmeek 105s you probably already have).

This is the Fun Carver, it’s extremely easy to initiate those high-G tight slalom inspired turns with the energy and pop of a one year old Siberian Husky. With a moderate flexing tip and rock solid tail, this ski is the whole package, even when you want to let it run medium-to-large radius turns.

And now on to the technical jargon...

  • Full ash hardwood core - for maximum snap and pop
  • Full width biaxial carbon fiber for increased torsional stiffness = more grip
  • nanoMAG Damping System to reduce chatter and vibration on hardpack snow
  • Rockered tip for easy turn initiation and the blast through powder/crud/variable snow
  • Traditional camber underfoot for immediate edge grip
  • Stiff flat tail for rocket-like energy coming out of a turn - but it’s still easy enough to break out of a turn

Common Questions

What length should I get?

The Fun Carver 88 features a tight slalom-like sidecut and huge tip. Size down from a typical all mountain ski if you are between lengths.

What bindings should I get?

You can use any binding on the Fun Carver 88 as long as the brake width is at least 88mm wide. We run Marker Griffon bindings on our demo skis. Visit your local ski shop for bindings and mounting.

Are they tuned and waxed?

Premium Materials

Core
Laminated ash hardwood: Long grain premium white ash is hand selected and cut into full-length strips. Strips are individually flex indexed and laminated together symmetrically. Each laminated core is CNC milled to a precise thickness profile developed for each model and length.

Composites
Ultra lightweight full width biaxial carbon fiber below the core, lightweight triaxial fiberglass above and below the core, unidirectional carbon fiber crossbands across the top of the core, fiberglass binding mat underfoot. Rubber bonding strips placed along edges, sidewalls, and ends for rock solid bonding.

NANOMAG® DAMPING SYSTEM
nanoMAG® magnesium sheets are inlaid into the wood cores. The unique characteristic of this material is its ability to dissipate mechanical energy into heat, with increased capacity as the material is moved faster.

Bio-Based Epoxy
Entropy Super Sap® epoxy contains 28% bio-based content and is specifically designed for skis. It's formulated for high-strength and impact resistance, which creates a durable, tough, and lightweight composite.

Sidewalls
Full-height urethane - bombproof and double chamfered for reduced swingweight. A rounded mini-cap top edge rolls over the sidewall to protect your topsheets.

Topsheet
Clearview textured matte nylon with sublimated graphics and transparent windows to the wood core.

Base + Edge
1.4 mm CNC Knife Cut 4001 Race Grade Durasurf sintered UHMW. 2.2 mm over-sized and heat treated edges take a beating.

Best yet from Copper Country

I had a chance to demo these this spring. WHAT A BLAST! The big shovel on the front gives just the right float for all conditions - pow, crud, corn, mashed taters. The tail is the after burner. Get these babys on the groomed, and they carve like nothing I’ve been on. Already got a pair on order!

Fun Carver Addiction

Message to the Shaggy's crew during my first day on the Fun Carver: "I'm throwing away all my other skis. These are sick."

I now have 2 pair with custom graphics packages and burn marks on my snow pants from all the hip dragging...

That sums it up...

My go-to lift-serve ski for most days

These are fun! I learned to ski on Elan SCXs and was looking for something similar. Something that just rips turns easily in the conditions I experience the most: groomers or a few inches of fresh. These are perfect! I can crank up the speed and rip fun turns with very little effort. And I'm chasing my kids around the hill and still having fun on the greens when I get the opportunity to make 1 or 2 turns. It takes way less speed to make fun turns than most skis but if you crank up the speed the Fun Carver still delivers.

The Perfect Ski

This is my second pair of Shappy's. Last year I bought the Ahmeek 95 and then I saw the new Fun Carvers and knew I had to give them a try. I bought a pair of custom Fun Carvers and couldn't be happier. These skis can hold an edge on hard pack like a race ski, but can plow through the crud and snow like my all mountain skis. This is my new go to ski and I couldn't be happier.

Shaggy's has great customer service and great products. My kids and I are all now skiing on Shaggy's and we love them. The custom ski option makes the shaggy's stand out even more. Getting skis that have something meaningful to me on them makes them even more special.
