Build Notes

Ride Notes: Super playful, forgiving, and float like a dream. Not my go-to for hardpack, but whenever there's soft snow - I won't grab anything else!

Design Needs: Maximum flotation - soft tip that deflects in powder - grip when on groomers - full rocker for float and maneuverability.

Purpose: Make a dedicated powder ski that will maximize the fun-factor on powder days. Don't sacrifice flotation for versatility - we've got other skis for that! Build them to make every day in powder your most memorable one.

Common Questions

What length should I get?

The Tubby 120 is fully rockered and therefore skis shorter than skis with rocker and camber. If you are between lengths, size up for a more stable ride, size down for more maneuverability. Check out our size chart for more info.

What bindings should I get?

You can use any binding on the Tubby 120 as long as the brake width is at least 120 mm wide. We run Marker Griffon bindings on our demo skis. Visit your local ski shop for bindings and mounting.

Are they tuned and waxed?

Skis come tuned with a 1° base edge bevel and a 2° side edge bevel and a slight tip/tail detune. The skis are waxed with a universal temperature wax to get you going.

Premium Materials

Core
Laminated ash/poplar hardwood: Long grain premium white ash and tulip poplar is hand selected and cut into full-length strips. Strips are individually flex indexed and laminated together symmetrically. Each laminated core is CNC milled to a precise thickness profile developed for each model and length.

Composites
Unidirectional carbon fiber strips below the core, lightweight triaxial fiberglass below the core, fiberglass binding mat underfoot. Rubber bonding strips placed along edges, sidewalls, and ends for rock solid bonding.

Bio-Based Epoxy
Entropy Super Sap® epoxy contains 28% bio-based content and is specifically designed for skis. It's formulated for high-strength and impact resistance, which creates a durable, tough, and lightweight composite.

Sidewalls
Full-height - bombproof and double chamfered for reduced swingweight. A rounded mini-cap top edge rolls over the sidewall to protect your topsheets.

Topsheet
Clearview gloss nylon with sublimated graphics and transparent windows to the wood core.

Base + Edge
1.4 mm CNC Knife Cut 4001 Race Grade Durasurf sintered UHMW. 2.2 mm over-sized and heat treated edges take a beating.

Great responsive all-mountain ski!

Just received and mounted before our Valentines/President's weekend dump at Vail. First couple runs were on groomers and skis were surprisingly responsive and allowed for snappy turns! Then, the 30" dump came and skis got their chance to prove themselves and exceeded expectation. Pointed skis down all types of terrain and never failed in any condition.

Great ski Shaggy!

Rode my new Tubby’s today. All smiles.

Rode my new Tubby’s today in the Pacific Northwest. Also a user of Ahmeek 105’s. These skis performed better in the back country and on the groomers than my 105’s. I was delightful surprised how well they performed. We are getting a 27” snow event next weekend so the true test is coming.

Great in powder but my go to spring ski.

To be honest I haven't skied the new iterations of The tubby. I have an older model but I think the basics are the same. Obviously with a 120 they are going to float. They ski very short with the amount of rocker in them. They are extremely nimble in the trees when you have at least three inches of snow. They are capable carvers on hard pack when transitioning out of the powder. They are my favorite spring ski because of the wide stance it is really fun to lay them over and you never boot out meaning you don't get snow slap that will slap you out of your skis in spring crud. They lay huge trenches and with that huge rocker tip they absorb the bumps. This ski is a must-have in your quiver I'm on it in the spring pretty much every day.

Funnest ski ever

I'm no ski expert, but I know what I like. These are the only fat skis I've ever tried (mine are 2017 models) and they're a blast in the backcountry. I'm a big dude, 6'4" and these skis turn super easy on crud, packed pow and pow. Super solid at all backcountry worthy speeds. So glad I bought them.
