Common Questions

What ski model should I get?
Each ski model is made for a specific set of snow conditions and skier style. Read about each model at www.skishaggys.com/collections/skis.

Want a recommendation? Fill out the form at https://www.skishaggys.com/pages/help-me-find-skis or give us a call at 231-459-4323.

What length should I get?

Ski length should be chosen based on your selected model, ability, and your preferred terrain. Check out our size chart for more info or we're happy to give you a recommendation!

What bindings should I get?
You can use any binding on these skis as long as the brake width is at least equal to the waist width of the skis. For example, if you purchase the Belle 90 model, you'll need a brake width of at least 90mm.  We run Marker Griffon and Marker Squire bindings on our demo skis. Visit your local ski shop for bindings and mounting.

What are Camber Pockets?
Camber Pockets are additional small sections of camber (about 4" long and 0.030" tall) molded into the overall camber of the ski in front of and behind your midsole position. They increase contact pressure to improve grip on hardpack and ice.

Are they tuned and waxed?
Skis come tuned with a 1° base edge bevel and a 2° side edge bevel and a slight tip/tail detune. The skis are waxed with a universal temperature wax to get you going.

The Artist

Keweenaw Night Sky by Jeremy Rowe has been capturing the night sky since 2009.

Jeremy relies on smart phone apps that alert him to when Aurora Borealis will put on a show. Sometimes, a glow in the sky at dusk is his cue to load his dog in the car and drive to one of his favorite dark spots 20 miles away. He takes the majority of his photos in Keweenaw County.

He’s raced out before only to find the cloud cover was too thick.

“It’s a decisive moment. If you go to bed, you wake the next morning and somebody else might’ve caught it,” Rowe said.

Rowe picked up photography from his father, who’s an underwater photographer. He promotes his work on Facebook and also maintains a website where people can reach out to him about purchasing prints. It’s exhausting to stay up until 4 a.m. taking photos on a weeknight, but he sees himself as the correspondent for people who go to bed early and never experience the shimmering light show.

“I’m really a conduit for people who don’t get out to see this stuff,” Rowe said. “It does feel adventurous. I’m jumping in the car in the middle of the night and racing up north.”

Many of his favorite photography spots are between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor. A 70-degree night last October was especially “phenomenal,” he said.

“When they’re really, really intense, that’s when you don’t even realize time’s going by. You’re inside of the camera,” Rowe said.

Premium Materials

Premium Materials

Core
Select cut Northern Michigan hardwood: Depending on the specific model selected, ash, poplar, or aspen are hand-selected and cut into full length strips. Strips are individually flex indexed and laminated together symmetrically. Each laminated core is CNC milled to a precise thickness profile developed for each model and length.

Composites
Unidirectional carbon fiber and lightweight triaxial fiberglass are used in varying amounts in each model to provide unparalleled performance. Rubber bonding strips placed along edges, sidewalls, and ends for rock solid bonding.

Bio-Based Epoxy
Entropy Super Sap Epoxy contains 28% bio-based content and is specifically designed for skis. It's formulated for high strength and impact resistance, which create a durable, tough and lightweight composite.

Sidewall
Full-height UHMW - the same raw material as your base, bombproof and double chamfered for reduced swingweight. A rounded mini-cap top edge rolls over the sidewall to protect your topsheets.

Topsheet
Clearview gloss nylon with sublimated graphics and transparent windows to the wood core.

Base + Edge
1.4 mm CNC Knife Cut 4001 Race Grade Durasurf sintered UHMW. 2.2 mm over-sized and heat treated edges take a beating.

West Daily Driver

Been skiing the Ahmeek 105 in 186cm since March of ‘24. Ran these first in Michigan at Crystal Mountain on a weekday after a bit of spring melt. Pleasantly surprised by the edge grip on all their selection of runs.
Brought these west to Breckenridge for first week of April spring break skiing as the alternative to my beloved Fat-ypus Desenders, 112 waist in 194cm, which have been my everyday west skis. The Ahmeeks are up for the task. With a thinner height these are ready to rotate on edge and carve. They also give float for a couple inches to half a foot of fresh snow.
Running these in January’25 as the go to set at Keystone, Vail, Breck and Crested Butte. Work for carving groomed blues and blacks, bumping, side stalk, steeps, and everything they encounter. Only one day in the last dozen was spent on another ski set when it snowed 6”-8” and my 125 waist powder boards were tasked.

Ahmeek Update

I bought my first pair of Shaggy Ahmeeks 8 years ago. It’s been my go to ski ever since. After 200 days on the ski I figured it was time for the upgrade. Unlike my first pair which I customized the ski, I went with one of the stock CU models for the added “steeze”. Right out of the box, the skis exceeded my expectations. Same great ski only a little bit better. It rails on hard pack; plows through the crud; floats in the freshies; and slices through the ice. The most versatile ski anything ski I have ridden. The new Ahmeek really rewards you when you stay centered over the ski. It becomes a rocket ship. Ive said this before - Buy your skis from a local ski company that knows and loves skiing. Avoid those big name conglomerates with their corporate boards that don’t understand what skiing is. Life is short, get a pair of Ahmeeks and enjoy the ride!
